Names of the current governors in Cameroon have been enumerated in this article as the appointment date. The Republic of Cameroon is divided into ten (10) regions.
In 2008, President Paul Biya of Cameroon signed decrees replacing “provinces” with “regions.” Hence, the country’s ten provinces are now known as regions.
In Cameroon, governors are the highest-ranking representatives of the central government within each region. They are appointed by the national government and serve as the direct link between the state and regional administrations. Their primary role is to ensure that national laws, policies, and government programs are effectively implemented at the regional level.
Governors oversee the work of local administrative authorities such as divisional officers and other regional officials. They are responsible for maintaining public order and security, supervising law enforcement activities, and ensuring stability within their regions.
In addition, they coordinate government development initiatives, monitor public services, and facilitate the implementation of economic and social programs aimed at improving the welfare of the population.
They also act as the central government’s representatives during regional events, emergencies, and administrative matters. By supervising local governance structures and ensuring compliance with national regulations, governors play a crucial role in maintaining administrative cohesion and promoting development across the regions of Cameroon.
