Description
Created by Glaxosmithkline Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Zentel comprises of Albendazole which is important for treating diseases due to aninfestationof parasitic worms.
It is an anti-parasitic medicine which treats infections caused by tapeworms like hydatid disease and neurocysticercosis which adversely affects the brain and muscles.
Diseases such as pinworm disease, giardiasis, hydatid disease (intestinal infection), neurocysticercosis (affecting brain and muscles), ascariasis (gastrointestinal infection), and filariasis (affecting the lymph nodes).
This medicine falls under a category of medicines called anthelmintic which eradicates parasites and worms by stunning them and destroying them with minimal harm caused to the body.
Cytoplasmic microtubules and tegmental cells are degenerated by the sulfoxide compound of the medicine. This causes the energy present in the parasite to get depleted along with destruction of metabolic processes which eventually kills the parasites.
It has been advised that the medicine should be consumed on an empty stomach or after a meal in special cases. The tablet must not be crushed or chewed but swallowed with water at once.
Zentel is also recommended by the doctor with other drugs for treatment of some conditions such as corticosteroids which help in preventing additional pressure on the skull while undergoing the first week of treatment. The patients who are acutely allergic to Albendazole and Benzimidazoles and the patient must revert to the doctor immediately for timely treatment.
