The residence permit is an identification document issued abroad admitted regularly to stay in Cameroon. Its validity is two years. A foreign national has to apply when he or she sets foot in Cameroon.
Documents Required to Apply for a Residence Permit in Cameroon
Its delivery is subject to the presentation of the following documents:
- A certified photocopy dated less than three (03) months of the valid passport, bearing the long-stay visa;
- A certificate of domicile, issued by the administrative authority or the Police Commissioner with territorial jurisdiction. This should bear the prior and compulsory visa of the Head of district or village.
- An extract from the Criminal Record;
- A tax certificate or a receipt of discharge tax, or a certified photocopy of the patent title valid for the current fiscal year;
- Payment of stamp duty as fixed by the finance law;
- Proof of stay.
Cost of a Residence Permit Cost in Cameroon
The price for a permit varies according to different categories as follows:
- 30,000 FCFA for students, pupils, or minor children;
- 120,000 FCFA for African adults;
- 200,000 FCFA for the French nationals;
- 250,000 FCFA for other nationalities;
- Free for those assimilated as members of the diplomatic corps
How to Renew your Residence Permit in Cameroon?
The renewal of the Residence Card is subject to production by the applicant for the old residence card at least one (01) month before its validity and any proof of stay expiration.

What is a Resident Card?
The resident card is an identification document required in some regions, allowing a foreign national to reside in a country for a fixed or indefinite length of time. Its validity in Cameroon is 10 years.
The issue or renewal of the resident card is subject to the presentation of the following:
a) For foreigners staying or admitted as residents
- A residence card renewed for the third time or a resident card, at least one month before the expiry of its validity;
- A certificate of domicile, issued by the administrative authority or the Police Commissioner with territorial jurisdiction, bearing the prior and compulsory visa of the Head of district or village;
- An extract from the Special Criminal Record;
- An exact certified photocopy of the valid passport dated less than 3 months, wearing a long-stay visa;
- Payment of stamp duty fixed by the finance law;
- A tax certificate (or a photocopy of the patent title) is valid for the current fiscal year.
b) For members of religious congregations not subject to taxation
- An act of recognition of the congregation;
- An identification document attesting to the quality of member duly signed by the Head of the said congregation;
- A certified photocopy of the valid passport dated less than (03) months;
- A certificate of domicile, issued by the administrative authority or the police commissioner with territorial jurisdiction, bearing a prior and compulsory visa from the religious leader on whom the congregation depends;
- An extract from the Special Criminal Record, where applicable
c) For the spouse of a person of Cameroonian nationality
- A certified photocopy of the marriage certificate dated less than three (03) months;
- an exact accredited photocopy of the valid passport dated less than three (03) months;
- A certificate of domicile, issued by the administrative authority or the Police Commissioner with territorial jurisdiction, bearing the compulsory visa of the Head of district or village; an extract from the Special Criminal Record;
- payment of stamp duty fixed by the finance law;
- A tax certificate or a certified photocopy of the patent title valid for the current fiscal year.
How Much Does a Resident Card Cost in Cameroon?
- 60000 FCFA for religious and legitimate spouses of Cameroonians;
- 250000 FCFA for Africans;
- 500000 FCFA for the French nationals
- 700000 FCFA for other nationalities like Europeans, Americans, and Asians;
- Free for those in the diplomatic corps.
